Crucial Aspects about Crimp C Connector


There are different types of connectors used in electrical systems. The features and specifications of the connectors depend on the type of terminals to be connected. One terminal connector used as a prime electrical component is the Crimp C connector.  

These connectors are made of a conducting metal, preferably aluminium or copper. Sometimes, the crimped connectors are un-tinned or electro tinned. The dimensions of these connectors depend on the wires or cables to get connected to an electrical system.

Features of crimp C connectors

Crimping connectors or lugs are designed differently from conventional terminals. We cannot call them terminals as they are generally used to connect two wires or cables, not junctions. Here is a list of features that make a C-crimp connector a unique electrical component.

1.      Tinned or Untinned copper

The manufacturing material used is industry-grade electro copper. It is either tinned or un-tinned, considering the environment.

2.      Used for connecting un-insulated wires or cables

The industries use these connectors for joining two parallel wires flowing in and outside an electrical system. Consider an example. These connectors are generally used in creating earthing systems. Two or more earthing cables can be connected using a crimping connector.

The closest alternative to this connector is welding. Generally, welding is avoided for the grounding systems as it does not allow flexibility. Using a Crimp C connector adds more flexibility without disrupting the connection between two or more wires.

3.      A simple crimping tool

A crimp connector can be attached tightly to the surface of two or more wires by simply using a bending tool. This tool is pressed on the crimp connector to form a C shape and hold the non-insulated wires together in targeted sections. The crimping process also needs dies of different sizes. Along with a crimping tool to create a connection, dies are used considering the crimp connector's dimensions.

4.      Tinned or un-tinned

A tinned copper connector is used when it comes in contact with a metal surface or an uninsulated wire. An un-tinned copper connector is used when insulation is present on the wires.

5.      Size of the crimp connectors

As mentioned earlier, a type of crimped connector is determined by the cumulative cross-sections of the wires to be connected. The size range of this connector depends on the manufacturer and the industries to be covered. The electrical systems decide the type of wires to be connected. Eventually, a Crimp C connector is chosen based on the cross-section of cables.

Choosing the right brand

It would be best to approach a reputable ISO-certified brand to procure these connectors. Make sure the copper used is of the industry grade. Find out the specific requirement and choose the suitable component. These components should be tested and certified, considering the industry standards. It will also need a set of mechanical tools for crimping.

Hence, choosing a suitable connector becomes a crucial part of electrical connections.
